Burls

Burls

The left hand bowl is a Poplar Burl while the other two are Cedar Burls. The one in the middle turned into a real challenge as I decided to hand sand the outside rather than turn it. About 25 hours later I was done! Whew!!

Spalted Poplar Lamp

Many wood turners don't like working with poplar. I can understand that because many times it's punky making it hard to work with. This may be true but if you're willing to spend the time to fix the punkiness, the wood can be very beautiful.
