Dye Colour Experimentation

Dye Colour Experimentation

The vases and bowl are an experimentation with dyes. I've never tried this before and am still unsure about further experimentation, but I probably will, just from the point of view of trying something different.

I started wood turning in 2011 and have fallen in love with the hobby. The bowls, vases and lamps shown are some of the items I've made.

Ambrosia Maple

Ambrosia Maple

The middle bowl is Spalted Maple, however the outer two bowls are Ambrosia Maple. This is usually a soft Maple tree that has been attacked by the Ambrosia Beetle. That is a very small Beetle that carves very small black tunnels in the wood and produces the brown and black lines that look similar to spalt but very different when you look closely.

The bowl on the left is a Beach Burl, the center is a Maple bowl and the right is a Poplar Burl.
